Roulette Rules

The bulk of learning Roulette rules revolves around knowing the different bets one can make. Once a person learns the different Roulette wagers, they can then use these bets to correctly guess the number or area of the wheel that the ball will land on when the wheel stops spinning. A player should also know about the Roulette wheel and board before playing too.

The Wheel

All Roulette wheels contain numbers and the amount can differ depending upon where the game is played. The most common is the European wheel which has 37 squares while the American wheel has an extra square labeled 00 which gives it a total of 38 squares. But no matter what wheel a person is playing on, the Roulette rules remain the same.

Roulette Board

While the wheel determines who wins and loses, players will place their actual wagers on the Roulette Board. This board has all 37 (or 38) numbers on it which are colored red and black along with multiple squares outside of the numbered squares. Where a person places their wager depends upon whether they are making an inside bet or an outside bet.

Two Major Betting Categories

The two major betting categories in Roulette are the previously mentioned inside and outside bets. Inside bets require a person to put their bet directly on the Roulette board numbers or on an intersection. Outside bets gets placed on the areas marked outside of the numbers and are labeled with names like "odd" and "red" or number sequences like "1 - 18" and "19 - 36".

Inside Bets

Straight-Up Bet: A straight-up bet is a wager laid down on a single number with a person earning a payout of 35 to 1.

Split Bet: With a split bet a person will lay their wager down in between two numbers that are right next to each other and the payout is 17 to 1.

Street Bet: This wager allows a player to bet on a line of three numbers such as 1, 2, 3 and a winning bet pays 11 to 1.

Square (Corner) Bet: A square bet is made by placing a wager in the middle of a four number intersection and payouts are 8 to 1 on this bet. An example is 19, 20, 22, 23 and the bet is won if the ball lands on any of these.

Six Line Bet These are bets made on two different streets and the pay out is 5 to 1.

Trio Bet: This wager is placed at the intersection of 0, 1, 2 and pays out 11 to 1.

Outside Bets

High and Low Bets: When a person places a low bet, they are wagering that the ball will land on numbers 19 through 36. Likewise, a high bet indicates that a player is wagering the ball will land on numbers 1 through 18 and both are even money wagers.

Black and Red Bets: This is another even money wager where a person is betting on the ball to land on either the 18 numbers colored in red or the 18 numbers colored in black.

Odd and Even Bets: A player can also place a wager on whether the ball will land on an even number or on an odd number. 0 does not count either way and this is an even money wager.

Column Bet: Column wagers allow a person to put their money on one of the 3 columns of the Roulette table and the payout is 2 to 1.

Dozen Bet: Providing another 2 to 1 payout, dozen bets let a person put a wager on the ball landing in the 1 - 12, 13 - 24, or 25 - 36 sections.
